STEAMing into Grade 4!
Welcome to Mrs. Murphy and Ms. Kerner's Fourth Grade Team!
We have started the year off with a bang! Our classrooms are filled with 46 exceptional children and we could not be more excited.
One of our favorite activities was definitely our Cup Stacking Challenge. This S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activity promoted team building, problem solving and use of verbal and non-verbal communication. Groups of 3 or 4 students were given 6 plastic cups, and elastic with 4 strings attached. Groups had to work together using materials to manipulate the cups into six different configurations or stacks. The only stipulations were: 1. Hands could not touch the cups only the elastic. 2. Hands had to be at the end of the string. 3. All members needed to participate.
Our students met with great success working together to problem solve. Please see the pictures below. We look forward to completing more STEAM activities in the future!
